Growing up, I looked forward to the weekends because I got to go to work with my dad, a custom homebuilder. I never knew it while I was tagging along, but I was learning from the best! As a teenager, I got power tools on birthdays and holidays…and if that wasn’t weird enough, I loved it! My tools, especially those handed down from my dad, were my pride and joy – and I always looked for ways to use them.
For my first career, however, I chose Quality Assurance and Operations. In all, I spent almost 20 years in the defense, telecom, and industrial manufacturing industries as a quality professional – the majority of those years in Quality Management. This is where I learned and taught six-sigma quality and process improvement, lead all types and sizes of teams, how to audit and certify vendors and sub contractors, and how critical every spec and detail is in an overall project or product.
In the aftermath of 9-11 in 2001, my Boston-based employer closed all Texas operations – and it was a no-brainer, Manning Remodeling + Construction, Inc. was born in February 2002. For a time, I did go back to the corporate world for another Directors position in Quality Assurance & Operations, but MRC remained a part-time operation and full-time passion. So it wasn’t long before I left the corporate world for good…and the rest is history!
So what’s the biggest difference between me and the other guys? 1st class professionalism and customer service from my corporate experience and training along with my personal principles on quality and attention to detail are all a big part of my work – but above all, I simply enjoy what I do, and it shows! It’s true what they say; “Find a job you love, and you won’t work a day in your life!”
